The Assassin: Abu Lu’lu’

Mentioning the assassin of Hazrat Umar (ra), it is written in Al-Tabaqat al-Kubra that when Hazrat Umar (ra) was attacked, he said to Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (ra), “Go and search for the one who has tried to kill me.” Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (ra) says, “I left and when I opened the door of the house, I saw a crowd of people who were unaware of Hazrat Umar’s (ra) condition. I asked who attacked Hazrat Amirul-Mo‘mineen with a dagger. They replied that the enemy of Allah and the slave of Mughirah bin Shu‘bah, Abu Lu‘lu‘, stabbed him. He had wounded others as well, but when he was caught, he used the same dagger to take his own life.”
